Korg OASYS

Korg OASYS(Open Architecture SYnthesis Studio) is here ... well, that was the word an year and a half ago. I never realized the ability of this studio workstation till the past few days. It's a majestic piece and you can the current ultimate at a truly believable price (88 keys version at 8500$ and 76 keys version at 7900$ :P).

It's a really, really great one built on the KARMA 2.1, the latest version from Korg. This surpasses the Kurzweil by a few years and don't even try and compare a Yamaha Motif ES8 with this one.

As is usual with the other workstations, this has an awesome listing of voices, memory and all sorts of extensions slots. The one that caught my eye is the CD drive with an ability to onboard make an audio file. This has suddenly shot upto the first position of my dream workstations surpassing the Kurzweil k2600X .. which itself is a beautiful piece ...

Ahhh ... but yeah, i have neither the money nor the experience to use OASYS for music ... I am yet a rookie :( ... hopefully someday I can play on one atleast ..

Let's look at people generated spam in CMI mailbox ...

Suddenly felt CMI Spam is worthy enough to be put up here.... and be saved on my pendrive in case I forget my Gmail password ... which is not so new to me ....

Subject: CMI-internal spam: a request for stopping it
------------------------

From: V (one of the great "starters" )
Date: 27 February 2007 17:17

Hi,

The tendency to spam ug, msc, rscholars, and seminarlist with possibly
irrelevant email has been prevalent among CMI students for a long
- Show quoted text -
time. Prominent among such spam are (these categories are not mutually
exclusive):

* Requesting others not to spam ug, msc, etc.

* "Forgot to log out" emails

* Advertisements for blogs, personal webpages etc.

* Replies to emails pointing out errors of fact, spelling and taking
up issues with email sent previously

* Smart one-liner suggestions/responses

* Emails specifically aimed at poking fun at some distinguished
individual (often one within CMI)

* Emails discussing general issues that don't concern the average CMI
student

These emails have been regularly cluttering the inboxes of CMI
students. In light of this, I have the following requests:

* If you want to request a person not to send emails to ug, msc,
rscholars etc. then please send this request (and whatever threats
you would like to accompany the request with) *only* to that person.

* Please do *not* send "forgot to log out" emails to ug, msc; if you want to
taunt a person for not logging out, do so personally

* For advertising blogs, webpages etc., use word-of-mouth or try to
push your page up on Google search

* If an email contains factual/interpretative errors that are not
serious enough for everybody else to know, or if the original email
was itself irrelevant, please do *not* reply to all but only reply to
the person from whom the email originated, and others who have
expressed active interest

* If you want to send smart one-liner suggestions, use something like
sans. The mailing list sans can be reached at:

"SANS mailing list" -- the one that is rarely used

In particular, do not feel free to send mails that count the number
of mails sent in a thread so far, or mails containing single words
that make no sense either in isolation or context.

* Do not abuse ug, msc IDs for carrying out personal vendettae against
your fellow students or others inside or outside CMI.

* If a general issue does not concern the average CMI student, please
do not send it to all. Find an appropriate forum for it.

Other points to keep in mind:

* When a person sends an email to a large number of people, and you
are tempted to reply to all, check the list of intended recipients
and make sure that none of the recipients could create major problems for
you (ref: Rohypnol)

You can check the following page for a list of email aliases to know
who will be the primary readers of your email:

"Aliases"

Remember though that anybody reading your email can forward/bounce
it to anybody else

* Avoid sending reply mails on completely (or partially) orthogonal
topics. For instance, do not reply to emails on Food with emails on
water in the toilets. This is very confusing for people who use
threaded views for their emails.

* In the rare event that you want to forward to ug, msc, please delete
the names of the specific recipients who are already included within
ug, msc (so that they don't receive the mail twice).

On second thoughts, don't. People who send mails to everybody around
them should expect to be punished for it by having to read other
people's mails twice :).

* If sending emails with many layers of forwarding, please send only
the final text that you want others to read and not all the levels of
forwarding.

SFSTU (By uninterested I mean people who neither send spam nor are
bothered about receiving it)

Thanking You,

Yours truly,

V

was'nt this a spam as well? Probably you should have just sent this to
yourself......and maybe the roypnol guy too....Also why do you always
intend to be so descriptive in your mails.....What do you want to display
by this....Your analytical skills or that you just like typing...

Hi,

Firstly, thanks to V for the mail.

It points out the need for guidelines on email usage in CMI. This will
soon be recitified by announcing guidelines for use/abuse of
facilities like email. V suggestions will be included in the
guidelines.

Personally, I don't want to get any more mails on this thread, or any
other issue that doesn't concern me (example: chicken for dinner).

Ha ha!

Next week, on Channel "V":
-----------------------------------------------
The tendency to talk has been prevalent among humans for a long
time. Prevalent among such talk are many categories (not mut. ex.):

* Requesting others not to talk

* Commenting about the weather, politics, etc.

* Small talk

* Poking fun at others

* talk on issues that don't concern the other person(s)

* Invitation to dinner, parties, walks, fights...

* [add another dozen categories here]

This talk regularly bores people. In light of this, I, having given
much thought to the matter, and being clearly superior to all of you,
have the following observations to make:

* If you want to taunt a person publicly, please do so when no one
else is around

* If you want to brag about something to everyone, please do it person
by person

* If you want to heckle someone's speech, please do so in person after
the speech

* if you ever have anything intelligent to say, put it in a book,
don't waste others time by saying it

[... lots ... ]

* never change the topic. This is important. You don't want to start
discussing the weather in May and get side-tracked into discussing
June weather.

[ some actually useful stuff here that no one will get to ]

-----------------------------------------------

So much for talking. Stay tuned in coming weeks for exciting updates
on eating, breathing...

Dear Bhanu, the question was only a rhetoric one. You were not supposed to
answer it, because it was only a comment on what Saurabh thought of
Vipul's mails.

Or could he be implying a deeper, much more nebulous answer? In reality,
the answer is simple.... Or is it?

hi,
I do not understand this prakash. Isnt this more of a godfather like
attitude of yours?? This is a free country and theres freedom of
thought. Do you mean that CMI is suddenly ruled by a set of superior
beings who will decide how will people think and how will people
interact. This is very painful to read about such "guidelines" of
thoughts and expressing oneself from you. I am not upset with Vipul's
mail sent in such an arrogant manner to people as old as rscholars
dictating them about what to do and what not , simply because he is
young and is yet to understand the world properly. But you should not
show such fascist attitude since its no more appreciated in the
civilized world. I hope CMI will not turn out to be a totally isolated
state in our country with a set of masters and a set of slaves.
I will request everybody to go ahead with your spams and wotever , and
if somebody doesnt like a spam he can either reply personally to the
sender or publicly. No harm in any of two.

regards,
FTB

well ... jus like that

It's pretty easy to write this when I know no one is going to read this.

Well ... thought that i've been in cmi for long enough ... so why not jus try and write few experiences .....

To start with, I can say that this was the first time I was staying and interacting with so many people .... it felt different ... for my usual monotonic kind of life where I am not that particularily interested in interested in interacting with anyone (maybe except a really small number).

Next, to find such a variety as in CMI ... i never found so much in other places I have been so much difference ... but maybe ... i was not able to comprehend then. Life gets really boring many a time .... which is not much varied as from home when I have to stay alone ....

Bu maybe ... my patience level ahs gone down a bit too much i guess ... i don't feel like wrting any further .... probably when i feel like ... i will try and elaborate more ... there's so that i feel like writing down ...

Captivity

Fetters unbound
Into an meandering wound.
Slowly as I crept
From the relapse, wept
At the new found Freedom
Unable to bear world of wisdom
where I, a age old Captive
sans Motive.

I found the long awaited
Petulant Freedom.
Awaiting the long gone bound
An immunization to wisdom.

The moment has come.
Realization too late.
Called upon the world of unseen captivity.
Embraced the sweet fetters of mortal immortality.

An evening

On the dull sands as I walked
To the waters that faded
from Murky brown to emerald green
To sapphire blue; merging with the sinking sky
A three mast ship at the horizon
sailed as it bounced lazily.

A wave slid unnoticed;
Baring the boring sand
to the drooping Sun
Sinking into the city wren.

Next wave bore a threat,
to the bared Sands....
As a spray of salt water hit
the remorseless horse.

From turquoise to Sapphire to Gray,
calling the Ship to hide behind the Bay.
In the next world unseen
in the Expanded horizon.......

"Life's like that "

That's that.

Finally, I have decided to comment on my own statement that I put up as my message in gtalk which seems to have perplexed many people as to the status of my mind and heart.......

Yes. It's exactly what you think....it's about a broken mind (heart?..no, do not mistake my language...i mean what i tell). One needs to hold himself responsible for what he says (well...this was said later....but written before...yet i hold myself responsible). Broken mind has a characteristic property of rambling at all time to it's owner ..... believe me ... it's pretty boring at most times.

This statement came as an outcome of one of it's rantings to me. Actually made by me .... seconded by it. It actually did not understand it....jus wanted to go on with it's own thoughts....so seconded to calm me down. But de facto, it did come back to this when AM asked me about this....and started pestering me with what I meant by this ..... so I had to answer this.....and hence, this post...so this is approximately the conversation that followed as I lay awake on my bed......

Rem(remnants...as I call it): So, what exactly did you mean by that?
Me: I did in fact think that you know.... anyway it's like this.....shud i really tell you?
Rem: Yes.... I do tell you everything I feel, don't I ?
Me: hmph...ok. It's like this.......it's the answer to all your talk (pep talk too) that you usually come up with...that rarely helps me....it's always the same ... whatever you tell me...it happens as it has to happen and as I want it to (except when it comes to grades in here). I was talking about the life that pertains to me....so LIFE'S LIKE THAT....that's what it feels like.....do you know that...happens whenever I have any feeling....a strong one....which is pretty rare. A feeling that has some significance to me.....something that is rare, ain't it? But, it always collapses to one thing....that is.....life's like that....either good or bad.....but this does not mean that I am that person who accepts life as it is....I strive to change ...... life's like that

P.S: This is as it came out of me...no additions ..... no deletions .... not a figment of imagination.....life's like that....something of this order usually seems to be an imaginative piece.....

Life At Siruseri-2

Recharge Chargin
The recharge show's up. This is about the first recharge for my mobile at Siruseri. Well, this journey also begins on a hot and sultry afternoon after having a sumptuous lunch. It's been 3 days since the balance on my mobile fell to 0.11 rupees. Finally, I had to recharge due to the orders from my house. This time I did not want to go on a bicycle as I thought I found some shop just outside SIPCOT. So, I walked out and went to the street and found all the shops closed. I finally found a shop which was jus about to close and walked to the shopkeeper to ask about the information about the availability of a place to recharge my mobile. So, he suggested Navalur. Hence I walked along (i have a knowledge about the distance ... after my first experience).
My disastrous fate did not leave me yet ..... the two shops which offer recharge were shut down on the occasion of Kaanum Pongal ( i rarely realize the dates of festivals unless it's a holiday).

Hence I was suggested to go to Shozhinganallur (the same place where I found the bank). This time, I relapsed my stupid ideas and took an MTC bus and reached the place. I searched 3 shops and finally got it recharged. Success...at last. I went to the bus stop to take a bus to the SIPCOT gate. Only after I got into the bus did I realize that I had no change and had money with least denomination at 50 rupees. The conductor shot at me look of utmost contempt and gave me 9 coins of 5 rupees each. That's almost as heavy 200+ gms. So, you should have seen the look on my face at that moment...even I smiled at myself imagining of that situation after coming back to the hostel.
But there's another thing that happened on the bus. A highly amusing moment. The bus conductor gave the person sitting beside me change for 100Rs. in 10 Rs. notes which he could as well have done with me rather than giving me the coins. (that what is the adverse effect of not having proper change for the ticket on bus).
